We’re so excited you’re thinking about starting a practice! Yoga is a great way to keep yourself balanced, manage stress, improve health, and stay positive. It may seem complicated, intimidating, boring, or just not for you. Not to worry – a lot of beginners feel that way. At Prairie Sunshine Yoga Studio, we do our best to make yoga accessible and fun. Remember, everyone’s had a first class!
Q. What do I do when I get to the studio?
Please take off your shoes by the coatrack and make yourself at home. Sign-in at the front desk and let us know it’s your first time visiting, so you can fill out a form. We’ll also give you an overview of the space and learn about any of your concerns or health issues.
Q: What should I bring to class?
A: Yourself! We are a fully equipped studio, which means we have tons of mats, blocks, straps, bolsters, sandbags, eye pillows, blankets, tea&cookies You can also bring a small towel and a water bottle.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Loose, stretchy, comfortable clothing. No socks (you can wear them to class, just take them off when you start your practice). Also, please leave your shoes by our coatrack. Lululemon not required.
Q: What classes can I go to?
A: You will be safe in any class because our instructors are happy to help you, but some classes are more challenging than others. We would recommend Beginner’s Flow on Mondays at 5pm, Mindful Flow on Wednesdays at 10am, All Levels on Thursdays at 6pm, and Yoga for Every Body Saturdays at 11am.
Q: Do I have to be flexible??
A: NO! Our instructors will happily provide you with modification options for any pose, so that you can receive all the benefits without pushing or hurting yourself. You do not need to be doing a headstand in the middle of the room to be a good yogi! Yoga is a personal practice, not a competition. You will be amazed at how much you grow in your practice over time. Look at it this way, dancing can be an extremely advanced discipline, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun simply dancing to a great tune at a party! Just remember to listen to your body and practice self-compassion.
Q: Do you have any specials for new students?
A: Yes, try 10 classes for $100 (3 month expiration)!
Q: Do you have a changing room/showers?
A: We do not yet have a locker room, but we have access to two bathrooms and a massage room, both of which you can use to change into your yoga clothes.
Q: How many times a week should I practice?
A: Although you will see benefits from attending a class even once a week, we do recommend around 2-3 times per week for best results. You can take advantage of our class packages, unlimited packages, or try to establish your own home practice.
